I draw upon my own lived experience and learnings, to walk alongside my clients, so we can problem-solve together for the best outcome.
I have always had an interest in mental health and psychology, encouraged by my own life experiences.
These include working through depressive episodes, walking with anxiety, and navigating chronic illness, during which I was supported by counselling and getting out in nature.
Counselling also helped me find my place in the LGBTQIA+ community.
“The counselling I have received made me want to become a counsellor so I could use my experiences to help others.”
Counselling approach
My approach is primarily person-centred and non-judgemental, putting the client first.
From there, I am learning how to draw on interventions from narrative theory, solution-focused therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, and te ao Māori models to tailor my approach to suit the client’s unique story and needs.
I am an empathetic, curious listener who is there to support you where you are.
“I love counselling because I understand what it is to struggle with mental health and life stresses, and I want to use this experience to support others.
My experiences, combined with my NMIT studies, have helped me find my purpose in life.”
What makes NMIT a great place to study?
The tutors are supportive and knowledgeable, with real-world skills and experience.
The friendships made in class are deep and meaningful.
Hobbies and interests
I have varied interests outside of study, including gaming, RPGs, paddleboarding, and swimming. These provide a great balance of exercise, creativity and fun.
