Building a campus life community
Our Buddy Programme helps new learners feel welcome, connected and supported as they begin their study journey, building strong foundations as they settle into student life, with help from someone who has been here for a while.
Having a buddy gives new learners a familiar point of contact in their first weeks at NMIT, helping them feel more confident, connected and at home from the start.

Based on your shared interests or study, current learners will be matched with a new student and support them through their first semester. |
Join a welcoming and inclusive environment where you can connect with others, build friendships, and celebrate diverse cultures together. | Enjoy welcome mixers, relaxed hangouts, and connection to other students. Social events will be confirmed each semester. |
Why be a Buddy Leader?
Becoming a Buddy Leader is a rewarding way to support a new learner while building your own leadership, communication and intercultural skills. It also offers valuable volunteer experience, opportunities to make new connections, and involvement in social activities.
Buddies will be welcoming, reliable and respectful by making early contact, checking in regularly, sharing helpful information, and encouraging participation.
We know this will be an enriching commitment, approximately 8-10 hours per semester.
In return, buddies will receive recognition for their involvement, including the chance to win a gift voucher each semester that they are a buddy, a letter of recommendation, and experience that can help strengthen their CV.
Please note | The NMIT Buddy Programme is open to all students. As this is a new programme, international students will be given priority for matching in the first instance.
